Künefe : an Iconic Middle Eastern Dessert
A dessert served warm, a star of Turkish, Jordanian, and Lebanese pastries.
Do you know the traditional recipe?
- A base of fresh angel hair,
- A center of special unsalted künefe cheese that melts during baking, called kaymak,
- Another layer of angel hair, drizzled with melted butter.
The whole thing is baked in the oven. And the finishing touch: hot sugar syrup poured over the künefe as soon as it comes out of the oven.
